Davis, B. R. (Communicable Disease Center, Atlanta, Ga.), and W. H. Ewing. Lipolytic, pectolytic, and alginolytic activities of Enterobacteriaceae. J. Bacteriol. 88:16-19. 1964.-Of 2,262 cultures of Enterobacteriaceae tested, only cultures of Enterobacter liquefaciens (Aerobacter liquefaciens), Serratia, Proteus vulgaris, and P. mirabilis gave evidence of lipolytic activities. None of the cultures liquefied pectate or alginate. The value of tests for these activities in diagnostic work with Enterobacteriaceae, and in defining the limits of that family, is discussed.

Enzymatic degradation of polygalacturonic acid by Yersinia and Klebsiella species in relation to clinical laboratory procedures.
As scored by several specified plating procedures, clinical and environmental strains of Yersinia enterocolitica, Yersinia pseudotuberculosis, and Klebsiella pneumoniae "Oxytocum" showed detectable, albeit generally weak, ability to digest polygalacturonic (pectic) acid. None of these bacterial strains had the vigorous and rapid pectolytic activity on these polygalacturonic acid-containing medi...
متن کاملA research on Existence and Special Activities of Acinetobacter in Different Cheese
The objective of this study was to identify Acinetobacter in a traditional cheese from west Azarbaijan, Iran, and to study the lipolytic and proteolytic activities of these bacteria in ripening of white brine cheese. Acinetobacter is a gram negative bacteria which can be found in different sources as dairy products. Lypolysis and proteolysis characteristic of this bacteria and...

متن کاملEffect of proteolytic activities in combination with the pectolytic activities on extractability of the fat and phenolic compounds from olives
During the extraction, a portion of oil remains trapped inside the cells and its release requires the degradation of the walls and cell membranes, especially when the fruits have not reached a maximum maturity which is likely to cause an optimal embrittlement of the parietal structures and cell membrane. This can be done by specific enzymes necessary for the degradation of various cellular barr...
متن کاملEffect of pectolytic enzyme preparations on the phenolic composition and antioxidant activity of asparagus juice.
Commercial pectolytic enzymes were investigated for their influence on phenolics and antioxidant activities of asparagus juice. The antioxidant activity of asparagus juice was analyzed according to 2,2'-diphenyl-l-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azinobis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) methods. The enzymes, with the exception of pectinase from Rhizopus sp., contained rutinase, which hydrolyzed ...
